Natural Resources and Energy

The Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Division strives to become a provincial model for an energy and natural resource agency with deep policy expertise, transparent processes, and a cohesive mission that balances conservation and development. The two sections housed in NRME, Energy Conservation and Management, and Mining and Minerals, play a crucial role in managing natural resources for future generations, ensuring responsible development, and expanding renewable energy.

Resource Management

The Natural Resources, Minerals, and Energy division is responsible for the effective management of our province’s natural resources. This includes conducting comprehensive assessments of available resources, developing strategies for their sustainable use, and implementing policies to safeguard their long-term availability. By promoting responsible resource management practices, the division aims to strike a balance between economic development and environmental conservation.

Energy Planning and Regulation

The division also plays a vital role in energy planning and regulation. It is responsible for formulating energy policies, strategies, and plans to meet the growing energy demands of the province. This includes promoting the development of renewable energy sources, ensuring energy security, and regulating the energy sector to maintain fair competition and consumer protection.

Stakeholder Engagement

Effective stakeholder engagement is a crucial aspect of the division’s responsibilities. This involves collaborating with various stakeholders, including industry representatives, environmental organizations, and local communities. By fostering open dialogue and consultation, the department ensures that the interests of all parties are considered in decision-making processes, leading to more inclusive and sustainable outcomes.

Twenty-five years of stable leadership and consistent administrative machinery have resulted in EPG attracting more foreign government and NGO donor agencies to invest in all sectors in the province. ’This has been our strength and a Key strategy for addressing our development agendas.
