PORGERA, Enga Province – Enga Governor, Grand Chief Sir Peter Ipatas, received a warm and enthusiastic welcome during his visit to Porgera Secondary School today, where he delivered a powerful message urging peace and unity among the people of Porgera Valley.
Addressing a large gathering, Sir Ipatas called on residents to end tribal violence, focus on caring for their families, and actively contribute to the development of their communities.
“All the wealthy Engans have left our shores and they will not return,” Sir Ipatas said. “You shoot someone just like yourself and think you’ve achieved something. The institutions we’re building — such as the Innovative University of Enga and the new provincial hospital — are for you, the grassroots people. The elites have schools and universities overseas for their children. Please refrain from engaging in tribal fights among yourselves.”
The Governor stressed that ongoing tribal conflicts hinder progress and warned that continued violence would drive away the few remaining opportunities for growth.
In recognition of the efforts made by educators under difficult circumstances, Sir Ipatas commended the staff of Porgera Secondary School for their resilience and commitment to educating the next generation.
During the visit, the Governor announced the rehabilitation and reopening of Paiam Hospital, with K4 million in funding recently approved by the Enga Provincial Assembly. He also presented a cheque of K648,000 to the school’s administration to assist with operational expenses.
In a further show of support, Sir Ipatas confirmed that while the school had already paid K100,000 for student uniforms, the Enga Provincial Government would cover the outstanding balance.
The Governor’s visit highlighted the provincial government’s commitment to education, healthcare, and community development, while reinforcing his long-standing call for peace and unity across Enga Province.
